Adivrekar, an abstract painter, has raised the bar for non-figurative painting. His paintings are vibrant works of art that stand out. Adivrekar, who was born in 1938 in a small Konkan town, moved to Mumbai in order to enrol at the J J School of Art, where he graduated in 1963. He afterwards started an accomplished career as an abstract painter.

Adivrekar has a long history of involvement with the Lalit Kala Academy. He has also worked at the Weavers Service Centre as an artist designer. He has served as the Bombay Art Society's chairman for a number of years. As an artist and an organiser, he has had a dual impact on the art world.

The canvases created by Adivrekar are pure colour poetry and bear the unmistakable genius fingerprint. The lovely coastal region from which Adivrekar comes originally from is reminiscent of the blue of the sea, the white of the surf, clouds, birds, golden sands, and dark rock that gleams in the sunlight. He has taken all of these and turned them into symbolic, non-naturalistic abstract art forms. His paintings are a visual feast and a beautifully balanced work of art because of the strong imagery and gorgeous colour blending.

With his 1998 exhibition of paintings and sculptures, Adivrekar, who has been producing art for almost forty years, took a small diversion from the norm. There were fifteen sculptures on show, twelve of which were from the animal kingdom and the others were from the human species. The paintings shared the same topics but were presented in an abstract manner, showing a divergence in the artist's approach and technique. They came with Adivrekar's creative force and singular artistry, which make viewing his paintings an experience not to be missed.
