Gurudas Shenoy, a renowned artist with a career spanning more than three decades, was born in 1965 in the little coastal town of Udupi in the Indian state of Karnataka. Being the first child of senior artist G.S. Shenoy, he was immersed in the arts from the moment of his birth and grew to love the colours of the natural world at a young age. His father's close friend M.F. Husain served as a mentor and had a significant influence on Gurudas Shenoy's artistic career. He has taken part in more than 200 group exhibitions and has a number of solo exhibitions at renowned Indian art galleries, including several at the Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai.
Gurudas Shenoy, who is well-known for his abstract and colourful cityscapes, earned his degree from the M.S. University, Baroda's Faculty of Fine Arts in 1988. In his works, Shenoy expresses his love for both the vibrant colours of nature and the vibrant life of cities. The core of his beautiful abstract cityscapes, which capture the dynamic of architectural spaces with their historicity, is his deft use of colours, lines, light, and textures. Additionally, Gurudas Shenoy revisits historical settings, creating enormous, abstract vistas with undulating surfaces and ground shadows. The award-winning artist prefers to work in oil on canvas, but he also enjoys watercolours. Through extensive experimenting, he was able to imitate the lightness of watercolours in his oil paintings.
Gurudas Shenoy's art practise has included murals, installations, sketches, and paintings over the years. His paintings and installations can be found in corporate and private institutions, as well as homes and offices, both in India and overseas. Several of his murals serve as notable landmarks in various corporate centres. Gurudas Shenoy, a member of the Bombay Art Society and the South Kanara Art Council (SKAC), served from 1991 until the museum's closure in 2008 as the curator of M.F. Husain's "Husain Sankalana" in Bangalore. He has received the Bendre-Husain National Award from the Bombay Art Society and formed the Shenoy Art Foundation, which helps up-and-coming artists who are still in their early stages of development. Bangalore is the home and workplace of Gurudas Shenoy.
