Mohammad Zain : Market Scene Terengganu
Born in Terengganu, Malaysia, Mohamed Zain Idris (1939–2000), also known as M. Zain, was a Malaysian. He was an oil and watercolour painter who self-taught himself.
M. Zain mainly used watercolour and oil for his paintings. His subjects frequently portrayed the people who lived and worked in beautiful rural settings. His paintings frequently featured boats and fishing, earning him the moniker "The Fisherman Artist" after reading the American poet and art critic Frank Sullivan's poem "Fisherman Art-ist." The Terengganu Menteri Besar gave him the prestigious title of "State Artist," along with his own studio, a place to live, and a stipend.
The Royal Families of Terengganu and Johar, the late Tun Hussein Onn, the MB of Terengganu, Tan Sri Haji Wan Moktar Ahmad, Puan Sri Kuok, and Standard Chartered Bank all have collections of his works.
