JM Subramani, sometimes referred to as JMS Mani, is a well-known artist who was born in Bangalore, Karnataka, in 1949. the 1974, he enrolled the Kuvempu Kala Sanstha Ken School of Art, where he studied under the direction of the institution's founder, RM Hadapad. Their close relationship had a significant impact on his art.
JMS Mani has explored with expressive gestural abstraction and nature-based abstraction throughout his career. He worked intensively with the actual environments around him, developing archetypes of the mountains, trees, structures, and landscapes of Hampi, which continued to pique his interest. Mani investigates a totally new topic and dimension in his "Mother and Child" series.
The Badami Series, which was inspired by Hadapad's birthplace of Badami, is unquestionably JMS Mani's most well-known body of work. Mani has a lifelong obsession with the picturesque landscapes and people of Badami, and he has produced numerous oil paintings depicting the regular men and women of Badami going about their daily lives.
Along with his acrylic and oil paintings, JMS Mani also experiments with sculpture, printmaking, watercolour, etching, and mixed media. His portfolio also includes impressionistic and surrealistic pieces.
JMS Mani, who won the Lalit Kala Academy Award twice and the Karnataka State Award once, has had solo exhibitions in India, Singapore, London, New York, Hong Kong, and Switzerland. Many significant private and public collections in India and abroad contain his works. In addition to being an artist, he spent many years as a teacher and Principal at his alma mater, the Ken School of Art, until his retirement in 2007. Bangalore is where JMS Mani now resides and works.
