Biography of Bayu Utomo Radjikin
Malaysia's Sabah is the birthplace of Bayu Utomo Radjikin. He received a Bachelor's degree from the University Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in 1991 after completing his studies there. His approach is varied, spanning from figurative painting to sculpture, and his work focuses on social criticism, personal and public identity, and conflicts in global politics. In addition to winning numerous significant Malaysian honors, Bayu has shown in the UK, Indonesia, and Pakistan. The Substation Gallery in Singapore hosted his most recent solo exhibition, Face Without Name, in 2011.
Throughout his creative career, Bayu—a former member of the Malaysian artist collectives MATAHATI and The F Klub and current Director of HOM Art Trans—sought to develop and support young talent from the area.
With the House of Matahati art programs and shows, Bayu is very actively involved. His most recent exhibitions are "MATAHATIJOGJA" at Yogyakarta, Indonesia's Sangkring Artspace, and "ArTriangle III 2010" at the National Art Gallery. The "TENGGARA Contemporary Painting From Malaysia - Indonesia & Philippines" exhibition at the Novas Gallery, Contemporary Urban Centre in Liverpool, UK, and the "MATAHATI Malaysia & ANTING+ANTING Philippines" exhibition at the Pinto Art Gallery in Antipolo City, Rizal, in the Philippines are two other noteworthy exhibitions he has previously participated in.
