Birth: Born in 1946 in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia.
- Education: He initially pursued a degree in Law but also majored in Fine Arts at IKIP Surabaya (now Universitas Negeri Surabaya).
- Artistic Training: He developed his painting skills through mentorship from senior Surabaya-based artists, specifically Indra and Rustamadji.

Move to Bali: In 1969, Hardja relocated to Bali, where he established himself as a full-time painter.
